Trailers usually start with the institutional information and director and star credits. then it will establish narrative and genre using iconography, dialogue or voice overs (however voice overs are considered an outdated convention) along with a introduction of key characters. there's usually montages of the key events of the film throughout the trailer. music from the soundtrack will usually be over these montages it'll either be music that fits the editing of the montage and the sequences in the montage or one that fits the overall narrative. titles are used more often now instead of voice overs to tell the audience something about the film, they usually contain the tagline.
How are trailers usually distributed?
usually trailers are distributed by the studios that produce them, i.e Warner bros distributes harry potter films but also its trailers. The trailers are released on a reel (DVD or tape) to be viewed by costumers going to rental stores.
