Representation:clip analysis

1) List the different people/groups represented in the trailer
men
women
foreign men
2) For each group, decide whether the representation is a dominant or alternative portrayal.
the portrayal of men in the trailer seems to be dominant as the hero and main character is a man. throughout the trailer the hero is seen being aggressive as well as other men which is a usual aspect of men shown in action films. the men in the trailer also seem to be the main people involved in the action of the film. the main female, the heroes daughter isn't in many scenes but in the ones that she is in she is in some sort of trouble and could be considered the damsel in distress which is a dominant representation of woman in films especially in the action genre. foreign men in this film and trailer are the main antagonist which again is a dominant portrayal of foreigners who are always considered the villains in films again especially action films like the bond films. even at the mention of a foreign country the music in the trailer becomes much more dramatic and the pace of the editing is quickened to portray some sort of danger for the characters in Paris.
3) What stereotypes can you identify in the trailer?
the main stereotype shown in the trailer is the dominant man and less dominant female that can't fend for herself. which is a universal stereotype, that females are weaker than men, which is used everywhere and in most media texts. there is also the stereotypes of foreign countries and people which are usually considered dangerous as they are new places and unfamiliar to some therefore become places with unknown outcomes that could be unpleasant.
